Why should you support the Iowa Center for the Book programs?
Your support makes a critical difference in bringing Iowans together, encouraging meaningful discussion and discourse, fostering a love of reading among children and teens, and supporting lifelong learning through literature and libraries.
If you love to read, donating to the Iowa Center for the Book Foundation is a perfect way to share that gift with others, ensuring that Iowans are educated and engaged for years to come.
How you can helP
Every dollar counts, and no donation is too small. Here are some of the ways your generous contributions will be used.
All Iowa Reads, Kids All Iowa Reads, and Teen All Iowa Reads. Our goal is $2,000 annually for each of these programs. Your contribution helps provide books, questions and other materials for community discussions. Additional dollars will help fund visits from the authors whose books are featured each year.
Letters About Literature. To continue to engage students and encourage their participation in this nationally recognized program, we’ve set a goal of $2,000 annually to enhance the awards to 18 students in grades 4-12: First Place (3), $100 ($300), Second Place (3), $75 ($225), Third Place (3), $75 ($225), nine Honorable Mentions, $50 ($455). The Library of Congress provides basic monetary awards. Additional funding supports the annual Award Ceremony in Des Moines, with major sponsors invited to help present the awards. Additional funding would support scholarships for Iowa’s winners.
Iowa Literacy Award. Each year the ICB receives many applications from deserving groups who serve the literacy needs of Iowans in creative and successful ways. Our goal of $2,000 annually provides a First Place and Runner-Up Award to support the work of the top nominees and an Award Ceremony in Des Moines. Your donation will be recognized at the award ceremony and in the press materials.
Traveling “History of the Book” Exhibit. Annual support of $500 is needed to keep this exhibit in good repair, and to underwrite shipping to twelve sites each year. Signage at the exhibit will acknowledge your generous support.
